BIOGRAPHY
Coming
from an esteemed family renowned in the manufacture of superior
genuine panama hats, Santiago Vega decided to start his own
company to “do it the way it was supposed to be done”.
Inspired by the memory of both of his grandfathers, he was driven
to reinstate the panama hat to its glory days through a savvier
management of the entire process, giving greater credit to master
weavers, and updating classic styles while continuing the tradition
of superior quality.
Vega was educated in Belgium for three years, then studied at
a private French school in Ecuador for 11 years where he continued
to be influenced by European liberal education while growing
up among a truly international crowd. “The ambience was
really unique”, says Vega. “Our teachers were mainly
French, the students were from all the five continents, so there
was a rich diversity of cultures and social backgrounds…
It was an interesting and easygoing mix between the children
of wealthy elitists and bohemian artists, and we were all influenced
by that singular ambience”.
After a further year in Pennsylvania as an exchange student
with the Rotary Club, Vega finally pursued a Business Administration
degree at University in Ecuador.

Inc. at the tender age of 22, in the year 2000. Says Santiago
Vega, “The company is a much-deserved tribute to the legendary
panama hat. It is also a tribute to both of my grandfathers
and a proud and honest reflection of the attributes that they
passed on to me. My grandfather Alfonso who was involved in
the panama hat industry for so many years and for his impulsive
personality and passionate views, and my grandfather Eudoro
who was a charismatic and honorable man that always handled
himself properly”.
Drawing on the attributes passed on by his grandfathers, and
the experience he was obtaining through his increased participation
in Board and Supervisory meetings on the panama hat factory
that is partly owned by his family, Santiago Vega learned to
embrace tradition and to use it as the basis of a strong foundation,
while introducing fashion and style as catalysts for the rebirth
of the genuine panama hat.
Since the company’s inception, Santiago Vega has set up
to resurrect the genuine panama hat as a legendary symbol of
masculine elegance, and make it one of fashion’s great
revivals.
The essence and trademark of the company founded by Santiago
Vega is not only that of timeless and boundary-less fashion,
but one that recognizes the importance of cultural preservation
